Aerokopter AK1-3 :: GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The AK1-3 helicopter has been designed and constructed by the AEROKOPTER Design Office. It is a single-rotor helicopter powered by the Subaru Model EJ-25 reciprocating engine with a liquid cooling system. Engine fuel is auto gasoline of octane number not below RON 95.

The AK1-3 (Figure1.1) is a lightweight helicopter conforming to Airworthiness Regulations (FAR, Part 27) for normal category rotorcraft and international noise abatement regulations. The helicopter is certificated under State Administration of Ukraine for Aviation Safety Oversight and bears a Type Certificate Number ТП 0008.

Advanced technology has been used in the design and construction of the helicopter, resulting in high performance and excellent controllability of the helicopter, crew safety and fail-safe operation of the main units and assemblies with the minimum of maintenance.
A spacious helicopter cockpit easily accommodates a crew of two pilots. Large windows give an extensive all-round view. The flight and navigation equipment allows VFR operation of the helicopter by day under normal weather conditions. The helicopter can be equipped with a GPS as an option.

The helicopter flight control is accomplished through a mechanically linked control linkage. The collective and cyclic pitch control is through a push-pull control linkage. The directional (tail rotor) control is through a push-pull/cable control linkage. Employment of a main rotor with a flexible (torsionally-soft) attachment of blades has enabled a considerable control augmentation and improvement of the helicopter maneuverability. High maneuverability is also ensured by a low-disc loaded rotor, high power-to-weight ratio, moderate moments of inertia and a sufficient margin of control.

The helicopter cockpit is equipped with a heating and ventilation system with window defrosting. The helicopter empty weight is 380 kg which makes it possible to transport it on a small car trailer.

Aerokopter AK1-3 can be used for a range of practical purposes:

• monitoring facilities and territories;

• search missions;

• geological exploration, aerial photography;

• pilot technique learning and air crew training;

• aerial chemical work;

• business and pleasure flights;

• participating in aerial sports competitions.
